  “What you have here is special,” Braith continued. “It needs to be protected and kept secret. As long as I’m alive, I will be the Warden of the Blood Skull. After what I did to the Coven elders, they will be coming for me. If I remain, they will find this place.”

  Leoma said, “This isn’t a decision we came to easily, but we both want to ensure that the abbey and everything the two of you began continues, so we all have a chance against the Coven.”

  “I’ll be able to find the men we need for the army,” Braith added. “Leoma and I can also be a link to the outside world for anything you need.”

  Edra and Radnar looked at each other and smiled sadly. It was Edra who turned to them and said, “We accept your decision and appreciate the concern and consideration you’ve given all of us. Will you hold the marriage celebration here, at least?”

  Braith laughed and nodded. Within moments, Leoma was dragged out by the women to begin preparations. He waited until they were gone before he rose and walked to Radnar and the other knights.

  They had much planning to do. And it started now.

  Angmar stared at the reflection of her face in the bowl, fury burning inside her. She slapped at the water and turned away. No magic she conjured could heal or hide the burns on the left side of her face put there by the Blood Skull.

  She was marked now.

  Matilda sharpened her nails as she reclined on a chair. “Retaliation. It’s our only choice. They killed two of the council.”

  “As long as Braith has the Blood Skull, he can harm us.”

  Matilda lowered her hands and shrugged. “Then we kill him.”

  Angmar smiled as an idea formed. “I’ve something better in mind.”

  “Oh,” Matilda said as she sat up. “Do tell.”

  “He was with a Hunter. Perhaps the Hunter becomes the hunted.”

  Matilda threw back her head and laughed as she rubbed her hands together.

  Angmar touched her ruined face. If she couldn’t get to Braith, she would hurt those he cared about.
